Port Canaveral, Central Coastal Florida

Port Canaveral, a bustling port on the Florida central coast, is home to U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force facilities and an export gateway for U.S. government cargo; however, 80% of the port's revenue is from cruise shipping. Solera WND-1 luminaires encircle the Exploration Tower, 7 floors of exhibits, play and observation decks. Cape Canaveral launches can be viewed from here. The Delta IV rocket launch is up next.

The WND-1 luminaires are lit by 36-watt RGB LEDs, color programed via a DMX controller. The columns stand 12 feet tall, but have only an 8-inch diameter. The top housing assemblies have a cast opal cylindrical lens. The inside of the top caps are painted white to optimize the illumination. The top assemblies connect to extruded aluminum shafts, and the base plates were waterjet cut.

Liberty State Park, New Jersey

More than 20 nautical-styled OV luminaires (U.S. Architectural Lighting) have been installed along the 2-mile Liberty Walk, and at the ferry dock of Liberty State Park in New Jersey, with more on the way. The vertical LED power arrays (40-watt to 89-watt) with glass refractors are designed to produce even light distribution and minimal glare. The poles are 16' tall with a standard textured black finish. Liberty Walk links the picnic area, the Interpretive Center and the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal. The park offers sweeping views of the Hudson River, the Manhattan skyline, the nearby Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and has ferry service to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Charlotte Premium Outlets

More than 100 traditionally-styled lanterns (Sun Valley Lighting) with LED vertical power arrays (30-watt to 90-watt) were installed for the walkways and along the streets at the upscale Charlotte Premium Outlets in Charlotte, North Carolina. The lantern models were the LCKM1 (20.5" x 40") and LCKM2 (17" x 35.5") on 14' to 16' tall poles on Sun Valley 3500 bases. Most of the pole lighting has dual lanterns mounted on decorative arms. There are also decorative wall mounts and banner arms on some of the poles.

O'Hare Airport – South Air Traffic Control Tower Entry Pathway

The entrance pathway to the South Air Traffic Control Tower at O-Hare Airport in Chicago is lit with 17-watt fully shielded LED "Linea' bollards (HessAmerica). The bollard is a 41" tall and has a single piece extruded aluminum housing. The light is "thrown" 12-14 feet.

Balboa Park, San Francisco

San Francisco's Balboa Park installed 25' solar collecting poles (Design Series, SolarOne Solutions). The solar collectors wrap 225???(R)???AE? around the poles, a solar collection dimension of 18' x 15.5". This solar skin is protected against vandalism by a coating of ethylene tetrafluoroethylene, a fluorine-based plastic. All the components are integrated inside a secured compartment within the base of the pole, including the lithium iron phosphate batteries, which reportedly have a 12-15 year expected life. Motion sensors override dimming features when activity is detected, and bypass diodes allow the panels to continue producing power if the solar cells are in shade or have been damaged.

Baybrook Mall, Friendswood, Texas

The Baybrook Mall in Friendswood, Texas has "Campone' luminaires (HessAmerica) on 12' stepped aluminum poles (15' to top of luminaire). These dual "LEVO' LED modules produce "warm white' 3000K dimmable lighting. The top-mounted cut-off shroud eliminates uplight at 90???(R)???AE? or above.

Farrell Road, Maricopa, Arizona, Tribal Lands of the Ak-Chin Indians

The lighting along the roadway here in the tribal lands is also solar lighting ("Design Series', SolarOne Solutions). These sun-facing solar cells wrap 340???(R)???AE? around the poles to collect the intense Arizona sun, solar collection dimensions of 8.4' x 30". The solar collectors are adhesive backed and riveted. The luminaires are solid state LEDs and full cutoffs, i.e., "Dark Sky'-friendly. The manufacturer asserts zero maintenance on the lighting for at least 10 years.

Trotter's Park, Orlando, Fla.

Trotter's Park was originally the home of the Ben White Raceway. The 100-acre public park offers 4-lighted soccer fields, 4-lighted baseball fields, restroom and concession facilities, biking and blading trails. The lighting is on 24'6" spun cast concrete poles (Ameron Pole Products "VEFX07.5' pole), with aluminum arms and scrolls.

St. Louis Arch – CityArchRiver Project

The geometric designed lighting at the St. Louis Gateway Arch grounds is the "Linea 450' luminaire (HessAmerica). These extruded aluminum rectangular luminaires each have 2 "LEVO' LED modules producing 4000K "neutral white' illumination. The modules have 14 high-power LEDs and a single piece prismatic lens molded from optical acrylic. The lighting is on 15' straight rectangular aluminum poles.
