Despite a scare from Tropical Storm Tammy, the ASLA?EUR??,,????'???s Annual Meeting and EXPO has opened in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The event is the world?EUR??,,????'???s largest gathering of landscape architects, giving design professionals from across North America a chance to meet, share ideas and enjoy a dose of balmy (if somewhat damp) weather.

The event offers a chance for readers of Landscape Architect and Specifier News to meet staff editors and sales reps. Be sure to stop by booth No. 1508 and say hello.

Organizers have worked hard to make this year?EUR??,,????'???s post-Katrina show relevant and memorable. The following is from an open letter by society president Patrick A. Miller, Ph.D., FASLA.

?EUR??,,????'??In keeping with this year?EUR??,,????'???s theme, Winds of Change, Keys to the Future , we?EUR??,,????'???ve worked hard to bring you top-notch educational programming that will help you manage the winds of change in our profession and in our communities. In addition, we?EUR??,,????'???ve selected an outstanding roster of keynote speakers, including the Honorable Joseph P. Riley Jr., Honorary ASLA, mayor of Charleston, S.C.; 2004 Nobel Peace Laureate Wangari Muta Maathai (invited); Laurie D. Olin, FASLA, Principal, Olin Partnership, Ltd., and Susan S. Szenasy, Editor-in-Chief, Metropolis magazine.

Thanks to the Florida Chapter, we?EUR??,,????'???ll also have a great lineup of field sessions to help you explore the Fort Lauderdale area and its landscape architecture. Known as the ?EUR??,,????'??Venice of America,?EUR??,,????'?? Fort Lauderdale boasts 23 miles of Blue Wave beaches and 300 miles of inland waterways. In contrast, South Florida is bordered on the west by the Everglades, a rich and diverse ecosystem teeming with unique flora and fauna. As you might expect, the Fort Lauderdale area offers a fascinating array of natural and built landscapes.?EUR??,,????'??
