Rep. Howard Berman and ANLA leaders discussed strategy for moving AgJOBS bill.

The American Nursery & Landscape Association (ANLA) applauded the leadership of a bipartisan group of Senators and Representatives who today announced the reintroduction of the Agricultural Job Opportunity, Benefit, and Security Act of 2007, or AgJOBS.

The legislation was heralded at a morning press conference led by Senators Larry Craig (R-ID) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and Representatives George Radanovich (R-CA) and Howard Berman (D-CA).

As co-chair of the Agricultural Coalition for Immigration Reform, ANLA played a major coordinating role in the press conference, and several ANLA leaders represented the association and the nursery and landscape industry, including Greg Schaan, Imperial Nurseries, Conn.; Bob Terry, Fisher Farms, Ore.; Alan Jones, Manor View Farm, Md.; and Bryan Champion, Losely & Son, Ohio.

“Our industry has been at the heart and soul of the AgJOBS effort, and will be a major beneficiary of its reform when enacted,” said Craig Regelbrugge, senior director of government relations for ANLA. “It is time for the industry to reengage the education and grassroots, and push AgJOBS across the goal line.”
