Angels Baseball Gives CLCA Chance for Fun

California Landscape Contractors Association (Orange County Chapter) members Doug Henderson of Boething Tree Farm and Bronwyn Miller of Eyescapes enjoy watching the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim defeat the Houston Astros, 6-5 on Aug. 17.

There's a lot of things to do on a Saturday night in the summer. But few events beat the opportunity to munch on tacos, have a few soft drinks, interact with other landscape professionals and watch your local favorite baseball team.

California Landscape Contractors Association hosted its annual tailgate party and baseball game at Angel Stadium on Aug. 17. The highlight of the 6-5 Halos win over the Houston Astros was a game-winning home run by Josh Hamilton in the bottom of the 10th inning.

"Growing up in Palm Springs, I was always an Angels fan," said Doug Henderson, senior business developer for Boething Tree Farm. "My dad's banker was Jackie Autry and my brother, Rick, got drafted by the Angels in 1968."

When Henderson was in school he got to skip out on physical education and watch the Angels in spring training games during the month of March in Palm Springs.

"The people in the Orange County Chapter of CLCA are a lot of fun," said Cherie Ciotti-Roco, president of Terra Prima in Corona del Mar. "They're really good people who are open to talk about the industry. Everyone helps each other out. They'll tell you which vendors, suppliers and specialists to go to."

Eric Glover, marketing manager for Focus Industries, said Focus Industries has been involved with CLCA for many years. Back in June the company hosted an association event in the factory, where they gave a tour of their 60,000 square-foot facility, which includes their 2,000 Sq. Ft. lighting showroom.

"In 2012 Focus Industries was at 30 to 35 percent in LED sales," said Glover. "By the end of the year we are projected to increase our LED sales to about 60 percent. Specifiers, in particular, need to know that Focus can manufacture any fixture to meet their specifications. We also have an on-site powder coating module, so our fixtures can be whatever finish they choose. This process takes less then a day, so their customer can see their finished product in a few days."
