Profile: Founded in 1904 and headquartered in Farmington Hills, Michigan, USA, and a regional office in Dubai, UAE, the American Concrete Institute is a leading authority and resource worldwide for the development, dissemination, and adoption of its consensus-based standards, technical resources, educational & training programs, certification programs, and proven expertise for individuals and organizations involved in concrete design, construction, and materials, who share a commitment to pursuing the best use of concrete. ACI has more than 100 chapters, 215 student chapters, and 30,000 members spanning over 120 countries.

 

Judged by an independent panel of industry professionals, winning projects were selected based on architectural and engineering merit, creativity, innovative construction techniques or solutions, innovative use of materials, ingenuity, sustainability, resilience, and functionality and presented at the institute's 2019 Convention and Expo. The highest honor was presented to the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, located in Dhahran, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia. The association launched a new program for U.S. military veterans who obtain an ACI certification; providing rebates of $250 towards earning a certification in concrete field testing, concrete construction inspection, flatwork finishing, or one of ACI's other 20+ certification programs. Other highlights included the Concrete Conference on Materials & Design in Amman, Jordan, the Self-Consolidating Concrete Student Competition in Dbayeh, Lebanon, the formation of a new committee whose mission is to develop and maintain structural concrete code requirements unique to the design of precast concrete, the launch of the Post-Installed Concrete Anchor Installation Inspector certification program, and the release of the ACI 562-19 Code Requirements for Assessment, Repair, and Rehabilitation of Existing Concrete Structures and Commentary. In February during World of Concrete in Las Vegas, the association will offer various certification courses, seminars and exams.
