The American Concrete Institute (ACI) and NEU, a Center of Excellence for Carbon Neutral Concrete, shared its new sustainability measure, ACI CODE-323-24, Low-Carbon Concrete-Code and Commentary, during the global sustainability conversation at the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai, emphasizing the pivotal role of the concrete construction community in reshaping the world's infrastructure.

 

According to the ACI, the code is poised to be the first comprehensive guide to low-carbon concrete, showcasing the association's commitment to reducing carbon emissions. The document, set to publish later this year, defines low-carbon concrete with progressive benchmarks, incorporating global warming potential (GWP) standards from the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association.

NEU executive director Dean Frank stressed the dynamic nature of the low-carbon concrete goal, recognizing its constant evolution based on regional variations. Frank highlighted the urgency of addressing global warming, noting that CO2 respects no boundaries, necessitating collaborative efforts. ACI's collaboration with NEU focuses on expediting the adoption of new technologies and increasing awareness among professionals for informed decision-making in design and construction.
