As the curtain rose May 21 on Amazon's plans for their new corporate home in Seattle, giant spherical domes filled with plant life were revealed.
The impressive-looking structure consisting of three conjoined bio domes is only part of the planned campus, which includes a skyscraping office building and plenty of good old-fashioned green space.
According to the designers, architecture firm NBBJ, the mission was to create an environment where "employees can work and socialize in a more natural, park-like setting."
"A plant-rich environment has many positive qualities that are not often found in a typical office setting," the firm's proposal states. "While the form of the building will be visually reminiscent of a greenhouse or conservatory, plant material will be selected for its ability to co-exist in a microclimate that also suits people."
The plans call for a variety of botanical zones, modeled on different global ecologies, flourishing in the eight to ten story domes.
Amazon's nature-centric building proposal continues the welcomed trend of major corporations' efforts to create more inviting workplaces and greener footprints.
