WASILLA, Alaska-Alaska Governor Tony Knowles recently announced plans to formalize Alaska's trail system according to Environment News Service.

The state will complete the Anchorage to Girdwood coastal trail and the 75 mile upper Copper River trail by 2004. Knowles wants the statewide system of trails to improve the physical, mental and economic well being of all Alaskans. Specific trails to be included in the Alaska Trails System will be nominated by the Board of Directors of Trails and Recreational Access for Alaskans (TRAAK). Knowles established TRAAK in 1996.
