Since New York?EUR??,,????'???s September 11 disaster, the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) has been working with the city to build a park on the half-acre asphalt lot previously used as a staging area home for rescue workers during the months of the recovery and cleanup. The area was the gateway to Lower Manhattan during the recovery effort and was utilized a checkpoint for residents as they went to their homes to secure their belongings and find temporary shelter. During the recovery effort in the weeks following the disaster, the Associated Landscape Contractors of America contacted the city of New York to see how the ALCA could help. In response the ALCA was offered a unique opportunity to build a park (to be completed by September 11, 2004) and to dedicate it to the heroes who spent many long nights at the staging area as well as to the residents of Lower Manhattan who suffered through the tragedy. The park has been designed, and the ALCA is now in the process of seeking financial support for its completion with hopes that it will not only be built, but that it will also be endowed for future generations to enjoy. To donate materials, equipment, and/or manpower, please go to the ACLA?EUR??,,????'???s web page at www.alca.org. Gifts of $100 or more will be included in a program book distributed at the park dedication on September 11, 2004.
