The six member Walsenburg Downtown Revitalization Committee (WDRC) of Colorado contacted Dave Farabaugh at W.J. Whatley, Inc. of Commerce City, CO in their search for lamp posts for their clean-up and reconstruction of downtown Walsenburg, CO.

According to Mockmore, "Everything our committee wanted in a lamp post Whatley offered- style, strength, durability, vandal-resistance, low cost, light-weight, and factory service. To be certain we were making a good decision, however, we also looked at cast iron posts. Our evaluation determined that they were much more expensive than fiberglass, and they weighed hundreds of pounds each. Besides the maintenance they required, we didn't want the extra expense of heavy equipment to install them. We ordered 81 fiberglass posts for the project and eventually selected a fixture that also matched the spherical globes on the original metal posts."

Walk down Walsenburg today and one sees and senses a new vitality in the community. Several companies have recently opened new stores on the avenue. An old movie theater has been restored to its original elegance. Local business owners have remodeled their store fronts. And sales taxes are up significantly in the past year. "It's been a rebirth for Walsenburg," Mockmore concluded. "A great place we're all proud to call 'home'."
