Jimmy Carter Receives Hoover Medal

Atlanta, GA

President Jimmy Carter receives the Hoover Medal for a lifetime of distinguished service in the public arena.

In recognition of a lifetime of humanitarian efforts, former U.S. president and engineer Jimmy Carter received the Hoover Medal from five national engineering societies.

The award which was presented to Carter during Engineers Week (Feb. 20-26), recognized his efforts to mediate conflicts in Bosnia and North Korea, his advocacy for human rights and his volunteer effort at Habitat for Humanity.

Named after its first recipient, former President Herbert Hoover, the medal honors engineers who have committed themselves outside of their professional work to advancing the well being of humanity.

"It is an honor to be recognized by the nation's engineers, whose work so profoundly impacts the quality of life for people around the world," Carter said.
