Make-A-Wish???(R)???AE???? Orange County and the Inland Empire, together with the Southern California Chapter of American Society of Landscape Architects (SCC ASLA) have teamed up to make a wish come true by designing and building a garden for Colette, a little girl afflicted with Arthrogryposis Syndrome and Chronic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Almost a year ago the Make-A-Wish family approached the SCC ASLA with Colette's wish, a shaded garden where she can be outdoors with her family. Once the SCC ASLA was in agreement it didn't take long for other sponsors, such as Valley Crest, Belgard, Park West Landscape, Hunter Irrigation, Hydro-Scape, NUVIS and many others to jump aboard the project. The landscape design was developed by the SCC ASLA chapter's emerging professionals and accomplishes the criteria needed to help improve the quality of life for Colette. Designs include a full reconstruction of the front and back yards with a garden, trees, shrubs, ground covers, turf and a dry streambed. Lastly a movable swing will be installed, which can be hung from either the awning or the swing stand depending on where the shade is during the day. In honor of Landscape Architecture month the project broke ground on April 22nd and is expected to be finished within three weeks. SCC ASLA, president Perry Cardoza said, "I am honored that our profession was selected as part of a wish and proud that landscape architects in conjunction with the many green industry leaders are poised to complete Colette's Garden."
