On September 10, the Senate and House committee leadership came to an agreement on America's Water Infrastructure Act of 2018. According to The Hill, not only will this bipartisan water infrastructure bill "reauthorize billions of dollars in federal spending on ports, harbors, and waterways," but it will also allow funds of $4.4 million for the Drinking Water State Revolving funds. It is a safe drinking water program that, until this 2018 version, had not been authorized in 22 years. In a press release by the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, committee ranking member Senator Tom Carper, D-Del., said, "The bill will help coastal communities prepare for the growing risks of climate change and help communities across America invest in local water infrastructure needs." The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster, R-Pa., and Carper believe that the act could assist in keeping American families safe, improve the coastal environment and keep America economically competitive with other countries. Following the bipartisan agreement, U.S. Senator John Barrasso, R-Wyo., hopes the bill will be passed on to Congress for approval and then sent to President Trump for his signature.
