Unsuspecting Nurseries Fall Victim to Scam

SUMNER, WA

Nursery firms beware! As of late, nursery firms have fallen victim to telephone scams, specifically those in Washington state. It has recently been reported by the Washington State Nursery and Landscape Association that nursery firms have been receiving calls from people selling chemicals to control weeds in greenhouses. However, after receiving the product (which as it turns out, is not even the one that they ordered), nurseries have realized that the credit card numbers which they gave the solicitors have been billed other items that were not authorized.

The solicitors claim that Pyrethrum mixed with dehydrated sea kelp will dry up insects and their eggs when applied, thereby preventing the insects from destructive defoliating.

Although the scam has mainly been reported in Washington, surrounding states should take extra precautions. If you have received a suspicious call report it to the Better Business Bureau at 800-488-3222.
