Marine Debris

The Third International Conference on Marine Debris reports that land-based sources account for 60 to 80 pecent of marine debris-- most of it from antiquated sewage systems, inadequate waste disposal, and littering. Land-based debris is carried by storm drains, sewers, creeks, streams, and rivers into coastal areas.
