Hyatt Hotels Honored

The Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) have selected Hyatt Hotels Corporation as their 1996 Landscape Contribution Award Recipient. This award honors major corporations and developers who create landscape awareness through their dedication to achieving high standards of exterior and/or interior landscaping through the use of professional landscape contractors. Previous recipients of this coveted award include Marriott Corporation, Walt Disney World, Embassy Suites, McDonald's Corporation, the Koll Company, Draper & Kramer, the Charles E. Smith Companies, Hewlett-Packard, Anheuser-Busch and Opryland Hotel.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation opened its first hotel 40 years ago; today, the corporation is a $2.8 billion company that manages 90 hotels and 15 resorts. Recognized by the Wall Street Journal as one of 66 firms around the world "poised to make a difference in the industries and markets of the 1990's and beyond,"Hyatt has made a name for itself within the landscape industry as well.

The "atrium concept" has helped to inspire the signature landscaping seen throughout Hyatt properties. "Landscape unquestionably constitutes an integral part of the Hyatt experience, particularly at the resort properties," comments Thomas D. Riegelman, Vice President of Engineering. More and more, "Hyatt chooses landscape design that is appropriate for the environment in which we are developing... we are trying to develop with as low an environmental impact as possible," he adds.

Hyatt has created programs that benefit and protect the local, national and global environments, while individual Hyatt hotels have also launched and staffed programs designed to help preserve the environment and to teach others to do the same.

It is this commitment to high standards and emphasis on landscape design, installation and maintenance which makes Hyatt Hotels Corporation most deserving of this special recognition.
