94% of Green-Marketed Products in the Building/Construction Sector Use Misleading Claims, Study Finds




In the building and construction products sector, there was a 108 percent increase in green products in the last year.

In the 2010 edition of Sins of Greenwashing, environmental marketing company TerraChoice found ?EUR??,,????'?????<

Only five percent of the 5,300 products examined by TerraChoice were free of some form of greenwashing. These results, including in the construction sector, showed improvement over last year, when the number was two percent (one percent in 2007!).

It seems most everyone is jumping on the green bandwagon. According to the report, the number of ?EUR??,,????'?????<

In the building and construction products sector, there was a 108 percent increase in total green products offered. The construction segment demonstrated improved use of ?EUR??,,????'?????<

Eco certifications have some merit, but of the products certified by an ISO 14024-based program, 70 percent were greenwashing. False labeling increased more than five percent from 2009 to 2010.
