The American Water Works Association (AWWA) has published a new handbook, "Water-Efficient Landscape Guidelines," by Richard Bennett and Michael Hazinski of the East Bay Municipal Utility District Water Conservation Office in Oakland, California.
The 176-page book reviews examples of current water use ordinances and provides water conservation guidelines for the design, irrigation, and maintenance of commercial, industrial, public and residential landscapes. The authors also address how to maintain landscapes with reclaimed water and how to use water budget formulas to evaluate various landscape conditions and ground cover options. Also included are 16 pages of color photographs that illustrate ground cover design options, efficient sprinkler spray patterns, and common design problems and solutions. $32 for AWWA members and $40 for nonmembers.
