Even Shamu knows the value of a well designed landscape when trying to attract the attentions of the opposite sex! Sea World of Florida is now constructing a breeding and research pool addition to the killer whale complex within their central Florida facilities. Part of this new development will include landscape and irrigation plans by Wallis Baker Associates, P.A., Landscape Architects of Winter Park, Florida.
The design team, lead by ENARTEC of San Diego, California, has completed the plans for this progressive new facility. Scheduled to open in 1993, this expansive pool addition - making Shamu Stadium the world's largest marine mammal habitat - will facilitate its primary research purpose while allowing for even greater visibility of these spectacular animals with both pool side and underwater viewing areas. All the while, the brilliant mammals (and the less brilliant ones on the other side of the glass) will be surrounded by a feeling of tranquility that only a landscape can produce.
Will this new environment provide the amorous pods a pliable playpen for procreation? Only Shamu knows for sure. When asked by LASN the wailing whale spouted steam, flicked his tail, dove for deeper water and at the the last second before disappearing into the depths gave a quick blink of the eye that said "this story won't be over for a long time to come . . .
