The Biden-Harris administration announced $63.4 million in new investments apart of Investing in America agenda for water conservation and protection of resources like Colorado River System.

 

The money, which is funded by the Inflation Reduction Act, will help protect and sustain the Colorado River System for future use. The Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner, Camille Calimlim Touton, in a joint effort with federal, Tribal, and state leaders, announced the execution of seven new conservation agreements which will conserve 162,710-acre feet of water in Lake Mead through 2026. These efforts help combat and maintain reservoir levels despite drought and climate impacts.

The new agreements help the administration in their goal to conserve 3-million-acre feet of Colorado River System through the end of 2026.

"Thanks to President Biden's Investing in America agenda, the Lower Colorado River Basin System Conservation and Efficiency Program is helping address, improve and protect the long-term stability of the Colorado River System," said Secretary Deb Haaland. "The Biden-Harris administration is using every tool and resource at our disposal to continue our sustained, collaborative progress in increasing water conservation across the West."
