?EUR??,,????'??It is the largest installation of pavers ever placed in a commercial setting in the United States, ?EUR??,,????'??according to Max Hoene, President of Pavex He was speaking of the new IBM Corporate Campus in Westlake, Texas?EUR??,,????'???

The entire site totals 850 acres and is master-planned to include the IBM facilities, a village retail center and other nodes P of development.

Peter Walker and Martha Schwartz of San Francisco and New York, respectively, were the land planners and landscape architects on the project which featured 600,000 square feet of pavers for walkway and driveway areas around the fountains and inner courtyards. Pavex received the contract and provided the special pavers. This meant Pavex had to deliver 60,000 to 120,000 pavers per month to keep up with the installation. The contract for pavers and installation by Faulkner Brothers Enterprises of Austin and Dallas, Texas ?EUR??,,????'??? totaled $1.45 million.

?EUR??,,????'??Originally, the landscape architects had specified 12" x 12" pavers because they wanted to match the size of the paving module with the size of the project,?EUR??,,????'?? Hoene said. ?EUR??,,????'??but we suggested the 6" x 12" size because it performs better in heavy traffic situations.

?EUR??,,????'??They decided to go with the 6" x 12" size and we made a special mold for the job. The pavers came out of our plants in Austin and Lewisville. Two colors of Pavex pavers were integrated into the herringbone pattern and installers took the time and effort to saw-cut the pavers around the countless bollards in the parking areas and walkways. Installation also included spacer ribs so as to ensure a proper jointing,?EUR??,,????'?? Hoene continued.

?EUR??,,????'??We also used non-limestone facing concrete on the pavers. The aggregate used in the facing has a higher silica content to make it more abrasion and skid-resistant. Too much limestone content would become polished and slippery and that would have proved hazardous to the employees who drive their cars and walk on the paved surfaces. In Europe, this technology of using high silica content aggregates has become a standard and we are introducing it into the United States,?EUR??,,????'?? Hoene said.

According to a letter from Noel Harrelson project administrator for HCB Contractors, general contractors on the project, ?EUR??,,????'??In view of the magnitude of the project, you should be congratulated for your efforts in quality control and delivery; all shipments arrived as promised and in a timely manner.?EUR??,,????'??

The IBM Corporate Campus is located northwest of Dallas and North of Fort Worth in Westlake. The developers are Maguire Thomas Partners, and the architectural team consisted of Mitchell/Giurgola of New York, Howard K. Smith Partners of Dallas and Legoretta Arquitectos of Mexico City.

Pavex Pavers played an important role in the IBM facilities and is looking forward to increasing their presence in the Dallas area. If the letter from Noel Harrelson of HCB is any indication, that will be a distinct possibility. Harrelson concluded, ?EUR??,,????'??It is clearly observable that Pavex has furnished a quality product. I would like to extend my personal thanks to you and your organization for the excellent manner in which you conducted business; it was very professional and your participation in the color/finish selection process was especially appreciated.?EUR??,,????'??

There is no doubt that this ?EUR??,,????'??largest commercial application of concrete pavers in the United States?EUR??,,????'?? will set the trend for further use of Pavex Pavers in the same type of development.
