The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) awarded a $5,000 matching grant to the Florida ASLA Chapter (FLASLA) to help its efforts to demonstrate to three state agencies that landscape architects have the rights and abilities to practice stormwater management, and that these practices by the state?EUR??,,????'???s licensed landscape architects protect the public health, safety and welfare as it relates to water quality and water quantity.

The Licensure Grant Program provides matching grants to states working to advance the ASLA goal for practice acts in all 50 states by 2010, but also initiatives to promote and defend practice act licensure across the U.S.

FLASLA said the grant demonstrates the ASLA?EUR??,,????'???s continued support of the Florida Chapter?EUR??,,????'???s approach to government affairs, following a $3,000 grant awarded to the chapter in 2007.

Volunteer members of the chapter’s government affairs committee completed the grant application.

In 2012, the Florida Legislature will conduct a statutorily mandated sunset review of the Landscape Architecture Title and Practice Act. FLASLA notes that every action by the chapter?EUR??,,????'???s government affairs committee focuses on preparations for that 2012 review, strengthening landscape architecture licensure, increasing recognition of the profession and placing it in a strong position to support the missions of the Florida environmental, transportation and planning agencies.
