The Federal Transit Administration has announced the availability of $3 billion for transit systems damaged by hurricane Sandy (October 2012). Public transportation agencies, which serve the areas affected by Sandy, can apply through the FTA Public Transportation Emergency Relief Program. Funds will be awarded on a competitive basis. The following states are eligible: Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. "The $3 billion in resiliency funds will go first and foremost to reinforce the critical infrastructure necessary to support public transportation systems damaged by Hurricane Sandy," said FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff in a statement. "Our goal is to advance the best regionally coordinated projects, so taxpayers won't have to pay to restore the same transit services a second or third time." All proposals must be submitted by Friday, March 28. For more information about the FTA, please visit fta.dot.gov. Association news and events are listed at landscapearchitect.com.
