The Port of Los Angeles is embarking on a $22 million upgrade of a main truck route to and from the harbor in a project that will create more than 250 jobs.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and other officials broke ground on the Harry Bridges Boulevard project on March 8.
Port officials say the funding came from a federal grant under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is the largest transportation grant awarded to ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????shovel-ready?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? projects in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
Improvements will include grading, utility relocations, traffic signals, driveways, irrigation, landscaping, storm drainage, lighting and signage.
Construction is expected to be completed by 2012.
