Taner R. Özdil, ASLA, is a global leader in advancing landscape architecture through research, education, and professional collaboration. For more than three decades, his work has helped define how the profession measures value, evaluates design, and applies evidence-based approaches to create more resilient and equitable urban environments. A pioneer in landscape performance research, Özdil has been at the forefront of developing methods to quantify the environmental, social, and economic benefits of landscape architecture. His early work on the economic value of urban design laid important groundwork for today's performance-based practices. He has authored more than 160 publications and presentations and led eight Landscape Architecture Foundation case studies, helping shape national and international standards for evaluating design impact. Özdil's leadership has significantly strengthened connections between academia and practice. As President of the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA), he established the first formal partnerships between CELA, ASLA, and the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards, advancing collaboration, research, and pathways to licensure. Within ASLA, he played a key role in elevating urban design through the creation of the Urban Design Professional Practice Network and its awards program. As an educator, Özdil has taught thousands of students, integrating research, community engagement, and real-world problem solving into his studios. His work has helped position landscape architecture as a STEM discipline and inspired students to address pressing challenges such as climate resilience and green infrastructure. Through influential scholarship, visionary leadership, and a deep commitment to education, Taner R. Özdil has expanded the knowledge base of landscape architecture and strengthened its impact across disciplines, communities, and the world.
