Stephanie Grigsby, PLA, ASLA, is a pioneering leader whose career is defined by the disciplined pursuit of resilient landscapes that address the most pressing challenges of our time, including climate change, wildfire risk, and overtourism. As a Principal and Board Member at Design Workshop, she has spent over 25 years leading complex planning and design efforts in ecologically sensitive and institutionally demanding contexts across the American West. Grigsby is exceptional for her ability to translate high-level environmental research into actionable, built systems that serve both communities and ecosystems. Her groundbreaking work on the Mariposa County Recreation and Resiliency Plan earned an ASLA National Honor Award for its innovative model that reframes parks and trails as essential wildfire infrastructure, supporting emergency access and forest health alongside public recreation. Similarly, her leadership on the SR 28 Corridor Management Plan at Lake Tahoe and the Big Sur Sustainable Highway Corridor Plan demonstrated her mastery of multi-jurisdictional collaboration, resulting in nationally recognized frameworks that balance the preservation of iconic landscapes with sustainable public access. Beyond her projects, Grigsby has profoundly influenced the profession through her leadership at the Landscape Architecture Foundation and her role as co-chair of the ASLA Climate Agency & Community Resilience Subcommittee. She has been instrumental in crafting national tools and guidance, such as HUD's Site Planning for Disaster Mitigation Guidebook, which bridge the gap between policy and practice to create More equitable and prepared communities. Through her commitment to stewardship, rigorous analysis, and inclusive engagement, Stephanie Grigsby has expanded the visibility and impact of landscape architecture, ensuring that our public spaces are not only beautiful but enduring and life-sustaining.
