Ross Altheimer, PLA, ASLA, is a distinguished interdisciplinary landscape architect whose 25-year career is defined by design excellence, material innovation, and a deep commitment to social and environmental justice. As Principal and Co-founder of the award-winning practice TEN x TEN, he has reshaped the boundaries of the profession, creating immersive landscapes that bridge the gap between art, architecture, and ecology. Altheimer is an exceptional leader whose work consistently transforms complex, post-industrial, and sacred sites into high-performing public spaces. His career highlights include Mill 19 in Pittsburgh, an ASLA Honor Award-winning project that reimagines a decommissioned steel mill as a sustainable tech hub integrated with living systems. At the Minnesota Zoo Treetop Trail, he led the design of a 1.25-mile elevated walk that repurposes old monorail infrastructure to connect visitors with nature from a new perspective. His work at Lakewood Cemetery Welcome Gardens reframes the cemetery as vital cultural infrastructure, using hydrology and ritual to create restorative spaces for reflection. Beyond his built work, Altheimer is a prominent voice in design research and education. A recipient of the prestigious Rome Prize, he has spent over a decade as adjunct faculty at the University of Minnesota, mentoring the next generation of designers. His service to the profession includes serving as Chapter President of ASLA Minnesota and co-chairing the 2023 ASLA National Conference.
