Michael P. Fox, PLA, ASLA, is a dedicated leader whose 25-year career is defined by a deep commitment to service, advocacy, and social responsibility. As a Principal at Stromberg / Garrigan & Associates, Fox has used his expertise to bridge the gap between design and humanitarian need, consistently demonstrating how landscape architecture can serve as a tool for public health, safety, and human dignity. Fox is exceptional for his tireless pro bono work within marginalized communities. He has pioneered design literacy programs in correctional facilities, including the Naval Consolidated Brig and regional jails, introducing incarcerated individuals to landscape design as a path toward critical thinking and professional agency. His work also extends to trauma-informed housing, where he has designed restorative environments for families escaping homelessness and domestic violence, proving that thoughtful site planning is essential for healing and equity. A staunch advocate for the profession, Fox played a critical role in protecting landscape architecture licensure in Virginia during significant legislative challenges. As a former President of ASLA Virginia, he stabilized chapter governance and strengthened relationships between practitioners and regulators. His leadership in coastal resilience is equally notable; he served as the sole landscape architect on the groundbreaking Sea Level Wise Strategy for Virginia Beach, translating scientific data into accessible, place-based adaptation strategies. Fox has also shaped national dialogues as a member of the ASLA Climate Action Committee and has led numerous STEM outreach initiatives to inspire the next generation of designers. Whether designing sacred spaces for remembrance-such as the SEAL Team Memorial-or teaching horticultural extension courses, Fox's work consistently elevates the visibility of landscape architecture as a vital public service. Through unwavering leadership and compassionate practice, Michael P. Fox has expanded the professional reach of landscape architecture and demonstrated its power to protect, restore, and inspire.
