Veterans Boulevard CPZ Beautification Project, Metairie, Louisiana

Design of the Veterans Blvd. Commercial Parkway Overlay Zone (CPZ) Beautification Project began in 2006. Serving as the main commercial district for Metaire, Louisiana, the six-lane roadway contains a major drainage system of open canals and underground box culverts. The final design included landscape beautification, decorative walls and planters, landscape lighting, irrigation and public artwork. The first three sculptures for the project were part of a long-term loan from the New Orleans Museum of Art. Popularity of the project quickly spread, and many residents of the region donated additional artwork, while Jefferson Parish created a program to include sculptures by local artists. The project currently includes 14 sculptures, with more planned for the future.

Jefferson Performing Arts Center, Metairie, Louisiana

The Jefferson Performing Arts Center is a newly constructed facility located in LaSalle Park in Metairie. The modern architecture of the building features a large glass wall that overlooks a green space. The concept for the landscape design was to create a southern Louisiana swamp scene, but with a modern twist. Cypress trees, azaleas, palmettos, grasses and irises are arraigned in large masses around a dry bed of Mexican beach pebble.
