Timbers at the Pinery Parker, Colo.
This residential community of over 750 custom and semi-custom lots is nestled in a native forest. The site planning preserved over 30 percent of the site in open space and protects pristine stands of 100-200 year old ponderosa pines and gamble oaks. Over 80 percent of the 1-2 acre sites back onto the open space and trails. Plan West created the first comprehensive tree preservation plan in the Front Range to sustain this natural amenity. Trees outside the open space are protected through the enforcement of limited building envelopes, controlled construction practices, and a professional architectural review committee. The Timbers was chosen for the HBA Parade of Homes and continues to be one of the most successful custom home communities along the Colorado Front Range.
Orchard Road Medians and Streetscape, Greenwood Village, Colo.
Plan West created an iconic gateway to the Denver Tech Center in 1991. The design features customized monumentation, streetlights, raised planters, tightly planted rows of canopy trees and a grouping of flagpoles for seasonal banners. Now 20 years later, Plan West was asked to revitalize the design. This included modernizing the built components and adding a sinuous line of ornamental grasses with layers of groundcovers and shrubs to contrast and complement the maturing tree canopy. The landscape is thriving and the median design continues to mature and provide an enduring asset to the community.
Rocky Vista University Parker, Colo.
Plan West coordinated the annexation and zoning of this property, prepared the site planning master plan, and designed the detailed site improvements for the Rocky Vista Osteopathic Medical University campus. A tight grid of canopy trees and planters create the outdoor library and plaza as an extension of the interior classrooms. Changes in elevation between the outdoor rooms help define the area for quiet study and socializing.
