Landmark and Architects West, Inc., were retained to provide master planning and facilities design for a new Gondola Village at Silver Mountain Resort. The project involved the design of a village plaza, remodel of the gondola base facility and design of new commercial/retail spaces with multistory condominium accommodations. The primary design influence was the use of materials and characteristic style of the historical mining district. The project has a major economic impact on the region, making the former ski resort complex into a year-round destination resort.

Landmark completed a series of projects to convert the old Stimson stud mill brownfield into a useable campus extension. The initial work involved master planning and public workshops to identify connectivity issues, confirm utility needs, define typical road sections, establish place-making parameters and confirm construction costs. Landmark led a zone change/planned unit development action with the city to establish final zoning and land use, set aside open space, plan future building sites, and provide bike/pedestrian components and a campus entry monuments project.

Efficient use of land and integration of the building into the site was a priority for the client, as was stormwater management and power usage. The proposed structure was a 32,000 sq. ft. facility with a two-story warehouse fitted into the sloping hillside to reduce the building profile, make better use of site contours and save energy. Turfgrass was limited; the planting palette favored drought resistant native and ornamental plants. Stormwater was treated in grassed infiltration areas, and through the creative use of a dry streambed/rain garden integrated with an event patio. Parking was provided for 60 cars.
