Neptune Park, Saratoga Springs, Utah
J-U-B's landscape architects developed a master plan (including schematic design options) and construction documents for Saratoga Springs' main park. A new large and dynamic playground suitable for all ages and abilities has added interest and attraction. The playground elements are found in only select parks throughout the world. This project brought positive recognition to the Saratoga Springs community, and the 10-acre park has become a destination.
Stream Channel Renovation, Weber State University, Ogden, Utah
The landscape architects redesigned an unsightly and degraded stream channel carrying stormwater from Harrison Boulevard to Lindquist Pond. The purpose for the construction was to solve erosion, stormwater control, unmaintainable vegetation and safety and aesthetic issues. One challenge was to accommodate flow rates of 3 to 59 cfs in an attractive and effective manner. The work involved piping a portion of the stream and using large diameter rocks and boulders to construct waterfalls, energy dissipation pools, and retaining walls. New irrigation and landscaping blend the new feature with the hillside. The result was the transformation of what campus officials referred to as a "wart" into a stormwater control structure disguised as a beautiful, year-round amenity.
Tracy Plaza Design, Weber State University, Ogden, Utah
Tracy Plaza was a complete redesign and reconstruction of a long-standing campus space that had become outdated and virtually unused. J-U-B's design goal was to replace the grass and above-grade fountain with a natural looking stream and a landmark boulder featuring the Weber State logo. The largest crane in the western U.S., reputedly, was used to lift a 67,000-pound rock and reach some 200 feet to place it in its central location. The university's flaming "W" logo was etched into the side of the rock and stained to give it visibility. Lighting for the flaming "W" was also provided. Other large boulders were placed to give the area a more natural geographical feel.
