2013 OCASLA Fall Educational 110 participants attended a four hour Health, Safety, Welfare CEU Shuttle + Walking Tour in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio on Nov. 1, 2013. Tour sites included Washington Park designed by Human Nature Inc. guided by Chris Manning, the University of Cincinnati Campus guided by Len Thomas, International Friendship Park designed by EDAW/AECOM guided by Steve Schuckman, and the tour highlight of Mark Dawson of Sasaki Associates guiding the newly completed Smale Riverfront Park. 2013 OCASLA Gala 140 attendees packed the Contemporary Arts Center designed by Zaha Hadid in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio on Friday, November 1, 2013. This yearly design awards presentation featured the Live Art Experience with Artist Molly Z, who led the group through the process of creating an interactive mural that was raffled off to the crowd. The Award of Excellence was given to Human Nature Inc. for the Lick Run Watershed Master Plan, and an Honor Award went to Environmental Design Group for the West Creek Reservation. 2014 OCASLA Annual Meeting 185 participants, including professionals, students, sponsors and vendors, attended a 6 hour HSW CEU day of educational sessions at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in downtown Columbus, Ohio on April 4, 2014. Over 25 vendor and sponsor tables filled the EXPO area to begin the daylong session, which included a sponsor lunch. Speakers included Bill Hendricks of Klyn Nurseries, Steve Foltz of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, Dan Euser of Dan Euser Waterarchitecture, Inc., Mary Nunn of the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, and Laura Solano, Principal at Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates. 2014 KSA Senior Dinner 35 students and faculty of the Knowlton School of Architecture at The Ohio State University joined the professionals of the Ohio Chapter ASLA to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating seniors at the Hubbard Grille in Columbus, Ohio on April 17, 2014. This senior class included undergraduate student McKenzie Wilhelm who was named the 2013 National Olmsted Scholar by the Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF). 2014 ASLA Advocacy Day Chapter President, Carmine Russo; Chapter Trustee, Jeannie Martin; Vice President of Legislative Affairs, Lynne Nischwitz; and Chapter Secretary, Karla Macrae represented Ohio landscape architects at 2014 ASLA Advocacy Day. Their team visited with a total of seven House of Representatives staff and two Senate offices while meeting Senator Sherrod Brown in person during their trip to Washington, D.C. on May 15, 2014. Topics of discussion included Maintaining the Transportation Alternatives Program, The Safe Streets Act, and New Opportunities for Bicycle and Pedestrian Infrastructure Financing Act. 2014 OCASLA Annual Golf Outing Over 50 golfers including students, professionals and sponsors attended the 10th Annual Golf Outing at Chapel Hill Golf Course in Mount Vernon, Ohio on Aug. 15, 2014. Each year, the golf outing has a theme and participants dress to the theme to win a prize. Ohio Chapter donated over $2,500 raised to the Student Chapter ASLA at the Knowlton School of Architecture in support of LABash, the annual student Landscape Architecture conference, being held at The Ohio State University in March of 2016.
