Landscape Architecture in the Library ASLA Indiana commissioned Outside the Box, a local non-profit organization that assists people with developmental disabilities, to create an art piece that shows many components of landscape architecture. The Indianapolis Central Library showcased the artwork near the kid's section and highlighted landscape architecture publications. It became a traveling exhibit and found its way to several local branches. Mayoral Proclamation Mayor Greg Ballard signed a proclamation declaring April as National Landscape Architecture Month in the city of Indianapolis. The proclamation became a traveling exhibit at many local firms. Earth Day Indiana Earth Day Indiana is a popular annual event at White River Gardens. The Chapter participated with an interactive educational booth targeted to young audiences. ASLA members assisted kids in building rain gardens while describing to them the profession of landscape architecture. A large painting of the ASLA national logo was signed by everyone who took the time to learn about the profession. Passersby were encouraged to doodle on the table covering and take information on rain gardens. Highlights included Kurt Culbertson's lecture focused on history and contemporary relevance of George Kessler's interconnected park and boulevard design for the capital city. ASLA Golf Outing This event is always a favorite for Indiana Chapter members to get out, enjoy the beautiful day and raise scholarship money for a landscape architecture student. The 2014 event provided a unique experience for attendees – golfers were able to view a variety of landscape and hardscape installations completed by Smock Fansler Corporation over the past several years, while using private club facilities not normally open to public outings. ASLA Annual Meeting The annual meeting is the most attended event each year. This year, Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard was the opening speaker at Butler University, where 15 continuing educational opportunities were available. Speakers from the allied professions and national ASLA spoke on topics including advocacy and other initiatives.
