About Florida Chapter ASLA Chartered in 1959, the Florida Chapter is the state-level professional association for landscape architects, representing about 750 members throughout the state in 10 professional sections and student chapters at three Florida universities. The chapter operates as a local extension of the national body and its purpose is the advancement of knowledge, education, and skill in the art and science of landscape architecture. The 30 recipients of the 2014 Design Awards included: Professional Awards Commercial Category - Award of Merit: ArquitectonicaGEO (Miami) for Taikoo Hui Green Roof and Plazas in Guangzhou, China. Conceptual Category - Award of Merit: DWY Landscape Architects (Sarasota) for Palm City Estate in Palm City. Institutional Category - Award of Merit: Foster Conant & Associates, Inc. (Orlando) for Wesley Chapel Medical Center in Wesley Chapel. Award of Merit - DWY Landscape Architects (Sarasota) for the Ringling Museum in Sarasota. Award of Honor: Phil Graham Landscape Architects (St. Petersburg) for Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg. Award of Excellence - ArquitectonicaGEO (Miami) for the Perez Art Museum in Miami. Open Space Category Award of Merit - Wood+Partners Inc. (Tallahassee) for the Historic Fourth Ward Park in Atlanta. Award of Honor - Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. (Sarasota) for the Bradenton Riverwalk in Bradenton. Philanthropic Category - Award of Honor: Foster Conant & Associates, Inc. (Orlando) for the Heart of Mercy Memorial Garden in Orlando. Award of Excellence: FLAGG Design Studio, LLC (Jacksonville) for The Dale D. Regan Plaza at the Great Oak at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville in Jacksonville. Planning and Analysis Category Award of Merit - EDSA, Inc. (Fort Lauderdale) for Adaman Moganshan in Moganshan, Zhejiang Providence, China. Award of Merit - EDSA, Inc. (Fort Lauderdale) for Uptown Cairo – Levana Village in Cairo, Egypt. Award of Merit - David Conner + Associates, Inc. (Tampa) for Wilmot Healing Gardens in Gainesville. Award of Honor - EDSA, Inc. (Fort Lauderdale) for Xishuangbanna in Yunnan, China. Award of Honor: David Sacks Landscape Architecture (Avondale Estates, GA) for the Memorial Park Master Plan in Jacksonville. Residential Category Award of Merit - Nievera Williams Design Inc. (Palm Beach) for an Environmentally Sensitive South Florida Landscape Designed with England in Mind. Award of Merit - DWY Landscape Architects (Sarasota) for a Florida Urban Residence in Sarasota. Award of Honor - Jon E. Schmidt & Associates Inc. (West Palm Beach) for the Equestrian Estate in Wellington. Award of Honor - ArquitectonicaGEO (Miami) for the Hamilton Residence in Miami. This project also won the Frederic B. Stresau Award, bestowed upon a winning project that best exhibits absolute innovation and design excellence of the profession in 2014. Award of Honor - Orlando Comas, ASLA (Miami Beach) for the Rare Gem in Miami Beach. Award of Excellence - HM Design (Fort Lauderdale) for the Cerro Verde Ecolodge in San Cristobal, Galapagos. Resort and Entertainment Category Award of Merit - Raymond Jungles (Miami) for the Pavilion Beach Club in St. Kitts, West Indies. Award of Honor - EDSA, Inc. (Fort Lauderdale) for the Breakers Cabana Club in Palm Beach. Award of Honor: JEFRE LA, llc (Orlando) for the Streamsong Golf Resort in Streamsong. Award of Excellence:???(R)???AE'?N????e'?N,A+ Sanford Golf Design (Jupiter) for the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point in Bronx, New York. This project also won the Environmental Sustainability Honor because it exhibited sound sustainable practices as described by the ASLA Environmental Sustainability Policy Statement. University of Florida Wins EPA Campus RainWorks Challenge University of Florida students won first place in a national competition for a plan on how to dramatically reduce stormwater runoff on a 67.6-acre part of campus. This is the second time the university has won the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Campus RainWorks Challenge. To compete in the master plan category this year, the students from four colleges chose a watershed in the northeast corner of campus. "The team was tasked to select and design a campus site of their own choosing, and provide analysis, design, stormwater calculations, proposed maintenance and expected performance data," said Glenn Acomb, landscape architecture senior lecturer and faculty adviser.
