This year the AZASLA sponsored three events in the 2014 Science Olympiad Arizona State Tournament- Middle School Division held in Scottsdale. The event is a national science, technology, engineering and math program that allows students to apply what they know in a competitive setting.

AZASLA has continued to work on the ACE Legacy Project at Metro Tech High School in Phoenix, which provides vocational training to students from 15 high schools in the Phoenix Union High School District. This program was established in 2008 by the ASLA as a way to give back to the city that hosts the event.

In March, AZASLA held their Awards Gala and Expo, which had over 200 attendees, including 23 vendors. The event is the Chapter's premier annual event and focuses on the presentation of their annual awards.

The Arizona Chapter of ASLA (AZALSA) had a busy and productive year. The Chapter held several events that included outreach, education to students, and community service as well as professional development and networking opportunities.

Education and Outreach
AZASLA has continued to work on the ACE Legacy project at Metro Tech High School in Phoenix, which provides vocational training to students from 15 high schools in the Phoenix Union High School District. As part of the ACE Legacy project associated with the 2012 Annual Meeting held in Phoenix, Chapter members worked with students upgrading the Horticulture Program's greenhouse and building a courtyard garden.

For the first time, AZASLA sponsored three events in the 2014 Science Olympiad Arizona State Tournament- Middle School Division held in Scottsdale. Thirty-two schools from all over Arizona participated. Approximately 500 students and all together over 1,000 people, including parents and volunteers participated in this event.

Science Olympiad is a national program that attracts the best and brightest students for academic competitions around STEM subjects. The three events sponsored by AZASLA were Dynamic Planet, Road Scholar, and Water Quality. These events have a direct relationship to the practice of landscape architecture. By sponsoring these events AZASLA promoted the profession and broadened the general public's view of landscape architecture.

Outreach efforts continued with the Advocacy Exhibit board tour that spanned nine months, visiting 16 locations that showcased the work of 15 different landscape architect firms throughout the state. The exhibit illustrated how landscape architecture benefited not only the visual quality, physical comfort and economic value in our cities, towns and rural areas, but how it has a direct effect on public health and safety.

Community Service
As part of the City of Phoenix's Reinvent Phoenix project, AZASLA assisted the City of Phoenix with their update to the Walkable Urban Code. Members worked collectively with city staff and contributed over 300 hours of volunteer time to help develop new landscape standards, identifying best practices that promote shade trees, as well as identifying appropriate trees and soil volumes based on desert urban conditions.

Networking and Professional Development Activities
In March AZASLA held their Awards Gala and Expo. The event is the Chapter's premier annual event and focuses on the presentation of the Chapter's Annual Awards. With over 200 attendees and 23 vendors this year's event was a great success.

In September the 27th Annual Golf Tournament was held at Whirlwind Golf Club in conjunction with Hunter Industries. This event benefited the Student Scholarship Fund. Finally, AZASLA hosted a sponsored Networking Event allowing everyone to connect with current and prospective members and alliances. This year, their Appreciation Event, held in October, was complete with specialty tacos, a tequila bar and live dancing by Por La Vida – Flamenco Dancers.
