Course Description This course will discuss the scope of current invasive insect species and how they are treated using trunk injection as an effective and environmentally way to treat trees. Also discussed are the ways to set up a research trial on insects which includes the new Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer (PSHB), which is poised to inflict major damage to our urban forest here in southern California. An example trial established this year at some local botanical gardens in southern California will be covered on controlling PSHB . Other subjects broached with respect to trunk injection will be: University studies and research How trees and palms facilitate uptake of medicaments and fertilizers Various types of methodologies Available formulations for controlling pests, micronutrient deficiencies and diseases New products on the horizon for treating pests and diseases Hands-on demonstration for treatments Biography Lee Mangum is the Southwest Regional Technical Manager at Arborjet Inc. He is a licensed Pest Control Advisor and Qualified Applicator. His experience includes over 18 years as a landscape contractor, Director of Audubon International's Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program, Pest control Operator, Golf Course Superintendent and a sales professional. Mangum is a regular speaker at industry events including the Professional Pesticide Applicators Association (PAPA) and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Park Administration from Cal Poly, Pomona.
