Course Description: Green roofs consist of multiple components, including waterproofing, insulation, filtration, drainage, root barrier, planting medium, plant materials, and irrigation that need to be carefully designed, engineered, planned, installed and maintained to maximize their benefits and ensure their longevity. Key to early planning and design is identifying the purpose and evaluating the environment, where green roofs are going to be implemented. Since multiple disciplines are involved in the planning and design process, coordination and guidance is crucial to ensure that all important aspects are being addressed. Once green roofs have been successfully installed, implementing a maintenance program is critical during the establishment period and throughout the lifetime of the green roof.
