In this session, attendees will examine the case of one California-based landscape architecture practice and how their business planning process led them to design the firm of their future. This session will further examine how the process of business planning, not only facilitated the establishment of clear and cohesive firm vision, but allowed the firm principal to face the future with confidence and not fear. Biography: Lynn Capouya has been a practicing Landscape Architect for over 32 years and is the President of Lynn Capouya Inc. She is responsible for developing client relationships, strategic partnering and corporate management in her 20+ person firm in Irvine, California. Since founding her firm in 1979, Capouya has led the firm major roles on some of California?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s most prominent projects including those for Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, Riverside County Transportation Commission, University of California at Irvine, California State University Fullerton, John Wayne International Airport and Macerich (REIT). A graduate of the University of Arizona, she has a genuine love for the desert environment. Biography: Karen Compton is Principal of A3K Consulting, a business development and strategic planning firm that specializes in the AEC industry. She has more than 15 years experience in business development and strategic planning, and procurement. Karen has been a featured speaker for several national organizations including the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Society of Design Administration, the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and PSMJ Resources on the subjects of business development and business planning. Her articles have been featured in such publications as the Journal of Public Policy, the SMPS Marketer, RainToday.com and the Rainmaker. In 2011, she launched Industry Speaks?EUR??,,????'??????????????--web-based business-to-business application that allows AEC professionals to search for business management consultants that specialize in the built environment.
