Course Description:

Design Principles of Great Cities: This power point presentation will travel through memorable downtown Cities throughout the world, exploring the best ideas and identifying successful design principles which can be applied to our downtowns. Over the past 40 years many different ideas have been attempted in the US with varying degrees of success; we will evaluate the lessons learned and which strategies are pertinent to our lives today. We will present current design principles that are effective and explore specific ways to achieve our goals.

Meaningful Stakeholder Process: In any public project there are many stakeholders to take into consideration; funding agencies, administrative agencies and community stakeholders. This presentation will discuss how to manage the sometimes conflicting goals of the varying agencies and community groups and how to create a meaningful and engaging community process.

Context Sensitive Design: What is context sensitive design and how can we use the community process to develop a design which speaks directly to the stakeholders and reflects their vision of their community? We will present some ?EUR??,,????'?????<
Life after Redevelopment: We are all aware that the Governor has dissolved the Redevelopment Agencies throughout the state. This had been economic fuel which funded many of our downtown revitalization projects. We will discuss the political future of redevelopment, where the money is going now and how to provide value-added service to our clients.

Biography:

Leslie B. Golden, ASLA, LEED AP is an award-winning Landscape Architect and Urban Planner, with over 30 years of experience in the private and public sector on projects ranging from streetscapes to multi-family housing, parks, transit hubs and waterfront developments. For the past 18 years our office has specialized in large projects in the public sector with construction budgets between $1,000,000 and $30,000,000. As a licensed Landscape Architect with a Masters in Architecture, her work specializes in working with Communities to transform public spaces with site specific design solutions which improves the physical environment and enhances the quality of life for members within the Community. As a LEED Accredited Professional, each project is designed to conserve our limited natural resources and employs best management practices.
