ASLA Honors 33 Outstanding Members The American Society of Landscape Architects has named 33 members to its prestigious Council of Fellows. The new 2013 Class of Fellows will receive their medals and be formally honored Sunday, Nov 19 at the ASLA Council of Fellows Investiture Dinner at the Westin Hotel in Boston. The "Fellow" designation is conferred on ASLA members in recognition of exceptional career accomplishments. ASLA recognizes their accomplishments under one of three categories: body of work, leadership and management, or knowledge and service to the profession. To be considered for Fellowship, the person must be a full member of ASLA in good standing for at least 10 years, and must be recommended to the Council of Fellows by the executive committee of their local chapter, the executive committee of ASLA or the executive committee of the Council of Fellows. Determining the New Class of Fellows Any ASLA member may nominate another member for considered to the ASLA Council of Fellows. Nominees must be current ASLA full members with 10 continuous years of membership, and "demonstrate exceptional contributions/significant positive impacts over an extended time." A member may only be nominated for three consecutive years. If the member is not selected during that time, there's a two-year hiatus before the member may be renominated. There is no limit to the number of people a chapter, the Council of Fellows Executive Committee, or the ASLA Executive Committee can nominate. A person may be nominated in one or two categories (works, leadership/management, knowledge or service). If nominated in two categories, two separate nominations are submitted. This year ASLA received 90 nominations for consideration for the 2013 Class of Fellows. The nominations came from 32 chapters and the Council of Fellows Executive Committee. The ASLA president appoints a jury from the membership to serve three-year jury terms. ASLA makes a concerted effort to represent different practice types and geographic locations to reflect the broad ASLA membership. The jury convenes annually to evaluate the nominations and select the new Fellows for that year. 2013 Council of Fellows Jury Kenneth Bassett, FASLA, Chairman Robert Weygand, FASLA Dale Jaeger, FASLA Linda Lee Jewell, FASLA Peter Schaudt, FASLA The jury met June 6–7 to make its selects.
