North Carolina ASLA Chapter
The North Carolina ASLA chapter holds two conferences a year, an educational conference in the spring and another in the fall, which also includes our state awards presentation.
Presentations included professors and students from North Carolina State University. Also participating in the conference were past ASLA President Rodney Swink, incoming ASLA President Susan Hatchell and APA President Mitchell Silver, AICP.
For Landscape Architecture month, members of the Triangle Section partnered with local mayors and council members and had April declared ?EUR??,,????'?????<?Landscape Architecture Month?EUR??,,????'?????<? in Cary, Raleigh, Sanford, Southern Pines, Pinehurst, Holly Springs and Garner.
On April 5, members joined with state legislators for a legislative breakfast to discuss issues relevant to the practice of landscape architecture.
For the ?EUR??,,????'?????<?8-17-2011 Understory Campaign?EUR??,,????'?????<? triangle section members partnered with the NC State Student ASLA for the presentation and unveiling of the Artist Backyard. This was a design build project on the NC State campus conceived and installed by landscape architecture students. The plan focused on implementing a LID stormwater system and creating a meaningful space between two dormitories.
That day, landscape architects from the Coastal Section came together in downtown Wilmington along the Cape Fear River to educate the public about the profession. All attendees brought with them a board with images of projects they have done in the Wilmington area and around the country. Speaking with pedestrians, the landscape architects talked with people about the profession and also listened to what people would like to see in the new riverfront park in Wilmington.
On Oct. 6, NCASLA along with the Sierra Club, the Dix Visionaries and Triangle Greenways Council held an event bringing business and community leaders together to support the vision of a destination park on 306 acres known as Dix Hill in Raleigh. The chapter passed a resolution supporting the vision. A documentary on Olmsted and his work was the focus of the evening that included comments from Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker, Wake County Commissioner Ervin Portman and Senator Neil Hunt.
