For the August 17 ASLA National Landscape Architecture Public Awareness Day, The Nevada chapter participated in four chalk art activities in Reno, Great Basin National Park, Henderson and Las Vegas.

The chapter continued to be affected by the economy with lower membership numbers but remained active and able to continue with regularly scheduled events.

Education
Monthly luncheons continued thought-provoking educational speakers. Luncheons occured in the southern and northern sections of the state. The chapter continued offering LARE Section E workshops for those preparing for the exam. Student scholarships were provided to southern section college students.

National Landscape Architecture Month
The chapter’s activities included “30 Days of Landscape Architecture,” with emails sent each day during the month of April. “Designed by a Landscape Architect” signs were located throughout the valley to promote the profession. Proclamations recognizing April as National Landscape Architecture Month were received from Clark County, Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas. Educational presentations were made to area schools.

 




As part of National Landscape Architecture Month Red Rock National Recreational Area and the Las Vegas Wash hosted area clean-ups.

 

More Events
The 20th Annual Golf Tournament was a success thanks to the committee, volunteers, sponsors and participants.
Southern Nevada Water Authority and the chapter partnered and helped judge landscape awards for Nevada projects on design and water conservation through plant material and irrigation.

On National Trails Day many visitors stopped by the chapter’s booth to learn more about the profession. The booth was adorned with posters and images with information about landscape architecture.

NASLA’s annual Desert Green Conference presents an Award of Appreciation to a person who advocates for the profession without being a landscape architect. This year the award will go to Kathy Wilson.

The Fourth Annual Art Auction allowed members to mingle and view artwork donated by members and sponsors.
The annual Pink Flamingo Reception and Landscape Architecture Awards is the chapter’s end-of-the-year event that provides time to connect with peers and celebrate the past year of landscape architecture with the announcement of awards winners.
