Iowa ASLA Chapter
The chapter has been updating their goals and planning events to engage and support their membership. A full update to the chapter website has just been completed to help provide additional information and links for their members to stay current with chapter events and news. In addition to the website updates, a strategic planning retreat was held in the spring of 2011 to update the previous strategic plan of 2001.
Proposed goals from this event included increasing visibility and public awareness, enhancing member services, updating and advancing a legislative agenda, and activating its membership through volunteer projects and leadership mentoring.
Also in the spring, ASLA Iowa sponsored the 6th annual ASLA Central States Conference at Hy-Vee Hall in downtown Des Moines. ASLA Central States is made up of the Great Plains, Prairie Gateway, St. Louis, Oklahoma and Iowa chapters of ASLA. The conference rotates between chapters each year.

It was highlighted by keynote speakers John Crompton, a distinguished professor from Texas A&M University, and achitect American architect and planner Andres Duany, co-founder of the Congress for the New Urbanism.
The ASLA Tailgate event brought professionals and students together at an Iowa State Cyclone?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s home football game at Jack Trice Stadium. This event was filled with food and fun to provide a social event for members to stay in touch. In December, the ASLA Iowa Fall Conference was held at the Blank Park Zoo. This event focused on techniques of landscape construction and included a tour of the new landscape improvement projects at the zoo.
