Using Beneficial Insects as Alternatives to Chemicals
Biography:
Steve Hazzard is a native of Santa Monica, California and grew up in the Southern California area. ???EUR He received his BS degree from Cal Poly, San Louis Obispo, and obtained a Masters Degree from the University of Southern California (USC).
While working with a company that was growing beneficial insects for farmers on government grants in 1976, Steve felt there was a need for alternatives to chemical pesticides in the professional Landscape industry and for the home gardener. So in that year, he founded Organic Control Incorporated, or ORCON as it is commonly know. ???EUR At first the company provided general purpose insects that attached a wide variety of pests. ???EUR Gradually Orcon added more specific insects to control more difficult pest problems, and today Orcon offers a complete lone of beneficial insects and natural repellents that make it possible to have beautiful gardens with out using any chemicals.
Course Title: Beneficial Insects as Alternatives to Chemical
Course Description: Steve will discuss when it is practical to use beneficial insects to fight common pest problems. This will include the principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). He will describe some case histories of successful conversions to IPM. He will select a few of the more popular beneficial insects and talk about how to use them effectively.
