In the spring of 2008, a vendor with a request approached Stens. The request was simple and straightforward: to donate an ambulance to Mercy & Sharing, an organization dedicated to helping feed, educate, and medically care for the children and widows in Haiti. Mark Salter, the Stens vendor that asked for the donation, has grown used to soliciting for such useful donations.
Since his involvement in the Mercy & Sharing organization, he has taken the role of Program Director and has helped founder Susie Krabacher foster the children of Haiti. ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????I have been to Haiti and seen the dangerous and unhealthy conditions these children live in everyday. It?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s truly heart wrenching,?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? Salter admits. As one of the most poverty-stricken areas in the western hemisphere, the children of Haiti are submersed in a world of endless despair and hopelessness. However, with the help of corporate aides, such as Stens, Mercy & Sharing has hindered needless suffering and provided the children with a chance to thrive and prosper in an environment full of disease and famine.
"The request was a bit of a surprise to be honest,?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? commented Peter Ariens, Stens President. ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????It?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s not often that we have vendors approach us for such large and specific donations. In the local community, Stens is no stranger to charitable causes. As an active sponsor of local youth activities and Anderson Woods, a local organization dedicated to providing residential services to persons with mental and/or physical disabilities, Stens is happy to be a responsible corporate citizen. In efforts to expand their philanthropy nationally, Stens was there to help rebuild the areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Immediately following the storm, Stens volunteered to transport a trailer to the center of the destruction to help clean up the affected areas. The residents of the area deemed the power equipment repairs and chainsaw chain sharpening services provided priceless. In an attempt to help alleviate the burden of rebuilding the area, Stens requested small donations for the sharpening services rendered and then presented a check to the American Red Cross. Efforts such as these are rewarding in themselves, and the hope and care provided for the victims of natural disaster, famine, poverty, etc, is irreplaceable.
?EUR??,,????'?????<????????As a business owner, my hope is to always change lives in a positive way,?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? said Ariens. ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????After hearing Mark?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s stories and getting to know the organization, it was nearly impossible to say no. Especially in this time of economic change, we feel it is particularly important to remember those less fortunate than us.?EUR??,,????'?????<????????
Without the efforts of compassionate individuals, such as Susie, Mark and caring corporate citizens like Stens, the children of Haiti would not know the generosity or care provided to them through Mercy & Sharing. With the help of Stens?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,?? ambulance donation, the children have an increased chance for survival and a healthy and happy life ahead of them.
Ariens points out, ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????In these turbulent times, it is easy to become overwhelmed by the negative accounts of our economic environment reported by news venues across the board. Wanting to provide a positive influence and a helping hand, Stens has taken action to bring hope to those whose attention is turned toward economic uncertainty, and the country of Haiti, where poverty and desolation is the norm.?EUR??,,????'?????<????????
