Everything?EUR??,,????'???s Bigger in Texas. You?EUR??,,????'???ve heard this slogan countless times. It is a part of Americana just like baseball, apple pie, and Norman Rockwell. Well, on March 6 to 7 PGMS hopes to make this slogan a reality as it rolls into Dallas for its inaugural Regional Grounds Management Seminar & Site Visitation of 2008.

That?EUR??,,????'???s right . . . the best and biggest in education and professional development opportunities for the institutional landscape superintendent will be on tap as we visit the Lone Star State. This includes interactive, behind-the-scenes tours of best practices at the grounds operations at Dallas Arboretum and Southern Methodist University (a former PGMS Green Star Award winner). This Seminar will also feature cutting edge education programs on issues critical to all grounds management professionals such as maintaining LEED landscapes, safely managing arbor care professionals, incorporating organic fertilizers into your operations, and more.

This visit to Texas comes on the heels of the creation of a new Texas Branch of PGMS over the past year. Spearheaded by the efforts of Southern Methodist University?EUR??,,????'???s Kevin Dilliard, CGM and John Burns of University of Texas at Austin, the Branch now boasts over 30 members and the numbers continue to grow.

?EUR??,,????'??If you are a grounds manager in the fine state of Texas and aren?EUR??,,????'???t on the above list, you ought to be.?EUR??,,????'??

The Branch includes the following list of devoted professionals: Jerry Moore of Amarillo College; Jeff Fuller of City of Farmers Branch; Brian Gerberich of Dallas Theological Seminary; Jose and Esteban Perez at Fairway Landscape & Nursery; Margaret Hall-Spencer of First Colony Community Association; Dan Lewis of General Industrial Corporation; Marshall Dodson of Good Fellows Lawn & Landscape; Billy Krause of Krause Landscape Contractors; Jody O?EUR??,,????'???Donnell of LMI Landscapes, Inc.; Michael Hugg of Metro National Corporation; Dennis Tucker of NISH; Norm Strang, CGM, Karen Carr and Matthew Taves of Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas; Ron Smith and Eusebio Franco of Rice University; Tom Dew of Texas A & M University; Robert Sulak of Texas Christian University; Dewey Shroyer, Charles Leatherwood, Cory Herpel and Charles Riegel of Texas Tech University; Becky Chisenhall of Texas Woman?EUR??,,????'???s University; Bill Kendrick of The Woodlands Corporation; Kevin Shelton of University of Mary Hardin-Baylor; Lanse Fullinwider of University of North Texas; John Simpson of University of Texas at Arlington; Michael Miller of University of Texas at Austin; and Jay Jascott of University of Texas at Dallas.

If you are a grounds manager in the fine state of Texas and aren?EUR??,,????'???t on the above list, you ought to be. If you aren?EUR??,,????'???t, the Regional Seminar is a great opportunity to become familiarized with PGMS and the benefits of membership. And of course, it will be a great chance to meet and join a network of other local grounds professionals facing similar issues and challenges.

With spring right around the corner now is the time to act to make 2008 a special year for your site and its users. Now is the time to find out how PGMS can help you get there ?EUR??,,????'??? find out more at www.PGMS.org. I hope to see you in Dallas!
