Mike Witt, owner of A Cut Above Landscape and Tree Service in Spotsylvania County, Pa., has once again donated his time and company resources to clean up the grounds of the historic Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery.

Previously Witt removed an oak tree that had been casting menacing shadows for several years. It was vast, rotting and had lost its last leaf the season before. The headstones of many soldiers would have been damaged if the tree were to fall and time was limited. Mike Witt volunteered his services in mid-July, when the weather was hot and he also had to deal with the presence of a hive of bees in order to remove the tree.

The cemetery is owned and maintained by the Ladies Memorial Association who have been caring for the graves of approximately 3,553 confederate soldiers from 14 states since the cemetery?EUR??,,????'?????<


More recently, Witt and his team returned to the cemetery to clear dead and broken tree branches, cut hanging limbs from trees and remove piles of brush at the site.

The workers spent approximately nine hours over two days completing the work, even returning a second time after a thunderstorm damaged the trees again.
