Oakland City Center, Oakland

This 12 block mixed-use urban space is at the heart of downtown Oakland?EUR??,,????'???s Redevelopment Project initiated in the 1980?EUR??,,????'???s. City Square (1985) creates a central gathering plaza and provides a pedestrian promenade which connects BART, the Federal Building, Preservation Park and beyond. Constructed over an existing parking garage, the plaza presented significant load bearing and utility line challenges. These were overcome with an elevated design using lightweight American made pavers and the careful choice of plantings and art placements.









1600 El Camino Real Office, Menlo Park

Completed in 2000, this small office building in Menlo Park provides a Mediterranean-style garden experience for the tenants of the building. An elegant system of discontinuous walls create public and private courtyards, which embrace the preservation of the existing native oaks. A unique plant palette was selected which emphasizes perennials and low water use.
