Rose Associates Landscape Architects, Inc., has been serving a client base in California and Nevada for over 20 years. Projects vary from public to private sectors including urban streetscapes, commercial/office space, large-scale residential projects, model homes, community parks, open space, and recreational facilities.
This 1,950-acre residential community in Discovery Bay, Calif. called for five phases, four man-made lakes, and community-oriented amenities including parks, walking trails, seating areas and three gated entry features. An excessive amount of boron in the soil was a major challenge facing the design team. They were able to overcome this serious roadblock and provide the client with a landscape plan that would not only offer the community a visually appealing network of lakes, parks, and walking trails, but also successfully diminish the negative effects threatened by the original condition of the site.
This luxury resort featuring four levels of townhouses, condominiums and penthouses surrounding central courtyards was built above a two-level parking garage. Because of this, the entire landscape had to be created from scratch. Keeping in mind that many people choosing to live here gave up a more suburban lifestyle with private backyards, small, private patios were designed as a part of each ground level home. For people living above the ground floor, alternative spaces throughout the site provided places of retreat and privacy, including areas with secluded benches and intimate wall fountains
These showcase homes display how a garden can add habitable square footage to a residential property. The outdoor space has a clear, functional program divided into a series of garden rooms. Each of these exterior spaces has a livable purpose similar to those inside. The garden was also dressed with interior fixtures and furniture. Careful attention was paid to design with the scale of the interior rooms in mind. This created a similar sense of space experienced both inside and outside.
